Tapered roller bearings are bearings designed to withstand large axial and radial loads, and are composed of an inner cone, an outer cone, rollers, and a cage. The inner and outer cones of the bearing have the same taper angle, and the rollers are distributed between the inner and outer cones via the cage, creating relative motion. The cage serves to fix the position of the rollers within the bearing and maintain equal clearance distribution between them, providing optimal rolling characteristics.

 

The most common types of tapered roller bearings are single row, double row, and four row. Single row tapered roller bearings are typically used for smaller loads and speeds, while double row and four row tapered roller bearings are used for larger loads and speeds.
